POS integration: every cashier’s sales straight into their pay

InShift needs a POS for one thing: a percentage of each cashier’s sales in their pay. Poster connects with a button and works today. Other tills, from Square and Lightspeed to Loyverse, SumUp, Zettle and Shopify POS, are connected on request by the same scheme: closed shifts collected on a schedule, cashiers linked to people, a percentage rule, a check against the till.

Which POS

Any till that reports sales per cashier. One ready, the rest on request; under each logo: where the till is used, how it records the cashier, and how it connects.

What InShift takes from the till, and why

InShift does not count revenue and does not keep stock. From the POS it needs one number per person per day: how much this cashier rang up in a closed shift. From that the “Percentage of sales” rule counts a share in the accruals, from “Own sales” or from the “Location's whole till”, in tiers by the number of people on the shift, on top of the rate or as a guaranteed minimum with “Pay instead of the rate”.

So every POS connects by one scheme. InShift collects closed shifts at the hour set under “When to collect sales”, you link the cashiers of the till to your people once under “Who in the POS is who”, and “Payroll” lists the takings per cashier for the window, exactly as they entered the pay, to check against the POS. An open day does not count, and a collected day is never rewritten.

A ready connection with a button exists for Poster today. The other tills are connected on request, when there is a first customer on them: we check how the POS names its cashiers and what its API returns, and say what is possible right now and how soon. The rota, swaps and pay by rates work from the first day without any POS.

This already works

Poster: connected with a button, checked against the till to the penny

The Poster screen in “Integrations” has one button, “Connect through Poster”: Poster opens its consent page and hands us the key itself, with no token to copy. The panel then lists what happens next: the sales of the last few days are pulled and kept up to date, the cashiers are linked to your people, and the rule itself is set up in “Payroll”. This is exactly how a connection to any other POS will look.

  • Collection once, twice or four times a day; the unit collected is a closed cash shift
  • Cashiers linked with suggestions marked by an icon: the panel offers, you choose
  • A percentage of own sales or of the location’s whole till, in tiers by the number of people on the shift
  • The pay sheet with the percentage in Excel for the books, or through an API key

The rule

The percentage lives on the “Premiums” tab, next to night hours and holidays

“Payroll” → “Premiums” is where every supplement is set: night hours, holiday work, hours over the daily norm, a per-shift bonus. “Percentage of sales” sits on the same tab: pick “Own sales” or the “Location's whole till”, the percentage, and whether it is paid on top of the rate or instead of it. A rule applies from the date you pick and never rewrites months already counted.

  • Own sales for a barista; the whole till for a shift that shares one register
  • “Pay instead of the rate”: the person gets the rate or the percentage, whichever is larger
  • Without a connected POS the percentage pays nothing, and the rule says so
  • Every event counts on its own: a day with night hours and a percentage pays for both

In the app

Each person sees the accrued amount by day in their own app

The app shows a person the same accrued figure as “Payroll”, counted by the same engine, so once the rule is on the percentage is inside it: how much for the period, how much per day, at what rate. Fewer questions at the end of the month, because the number was visible all month.

  • Shifts, hours and the accrued amount for the period, then the list by day
  • Each day with its hours, location and amount, so a strong day shows up as soon as the till is collected
  • The same engine as “Payroll”: the history of rates, supplements and pay terms all count
  • No number is shown until the rate is known: nothing is ever shown as zero

How to ask for your POS

  1. 1

    Write to us

support@inshift.app: which POS, how many locations and cashiers, and whether you pay a percentage of own sales or of the whole till.

  2. 2

    We check

How your POS names its cashiers and what its API or export returns. We say what is possible right now and how soon.

  3. 3

    Meanwhile

Set up the rota, the people and the rates: nothing has to be redone after the connection, the percentage simply appears in the accruals.

  4. 4

    After the connection

Link the cashiers to your people, set the collection schedule and add the “Percentage of sales” rule on the “Premiums” tab.

Frequently asked questions

Why is only Poster ready?▾

Because the first InShift customers run on Poster, and the link was polished on live cafes. The other tills are connected on request by the same scheme: that is more honest than a wall of logos with no working button behind them.

Can I upload sales from any POS as a file?▾

No, there is no import of sales from a file, and the API does not take sales in. The percentage of sales is counted only from a connected POS. Until then revenue can be rewarded with a one-off “Bonus” with a reason in “Payroll”.

What exactly does InShift read from the POS?▾

Sales per cashier for closed shifts: the takings and the number of receipts for each per day. Products, stock, customers and fiscal data are not read, and nothing is written to the POS.

What does connecting a POS cost?▾

Poster is connected by the owner in the panel, with no setup on our side. For tills on request the terms and the timeline are named after the conversation, once it is clear what your POS reports.

Do I need a POS to use InShift?▾

No. The rota, swaps, requests and pay by rates work in any business without a till. A POS is needed only for the percentage of sales.

Start with the rota, add the till when you are ready

Poster connects with a button right away, another POS is a short email, and the rota with pay by rates works from the first day.
