Getting started: what to do after registration

For: Owner, Location managerUpdated 21 September 2026

After registration you are in the admin panel and your organization already exists: there is nothing to register again. What comes next is setting it up, and the panel leads the way: the 'Home' page shows a 'Getting started' card with steps, and the menu on the left has a 'Getting started' item with a progress counter such as '2/7'.
There are six steps, and they are best taken in order because each one builds on the previous: a location, shift types inside it, positions, employees, the rota, publishing. Your account counts as the first completed step, so right after registration the card shows '1 of 7'.
The card and the menu item disappear on their own once you publish the first rota. Until then you can open them any time to see what is done.

Where to find it

'Home' → the 'Getting started' card with the 'Start setup' button (after the first step the button reads 'Continue setup'). The same card opens from the menu on the left: the 'Getting started' item.
The button takes you to the page of the next step, where a hint points at the control to click, for example 'Click here to add your first location'. You can close a hint with 'Got it' or 'Skip'; the steps stay.

Step by step

  1. Create a location. Menu 'Locations' → 'Create location': the name of the site, optionally an address and a colour. One site is one location. Article Create a location and shift types.
  2. Set up shift types. Open the location you created: the 'Location setup' card inside walks you through a position and shift types, for example 'Morning 08:00–16:00' and 'Evening 16:00–23:00'. Without shift types there is nothing to pick in the rota.
  3. Add positions. The first position is added right there, inside the location; more can be added under 'Employees' → the 'Positions' tab. Article Job positions.
  4. Add employees. Menu 'Employees' → 'Add employee': name, position, location. The step counts from two people: a rota is not built for one. The app invite code can be handed out now or later. Article Add employees and invite them by code.
  5. Build the rota. Menu 'Schedule': click the cell where a person and a day meet and pick a shift type. Article Build your first rota.
  6. Publish to the team. In the schedule click 'Publish'. Until the rota is published the team sees no shifts. Article Publish the rota.
After publishing, the 'Rota published!' window offers 'Invite your team' and 'See it as an employee'. The 'Getting started' card disappears, and for a while 'Home' shows a card counting how many people have connected to the app, with a 'Send codes to the team' button.

Why the action is missing

The 'Getting started' card is gone: the first rota has been published and setup is complete. Everything from the steps lives in its own menu section: 'Locations', 'Employees', 'Schedule'.
The 'Add employees' step is not ticked although a person was added: it needs two. Add one more.
The hint on the page vanished: you clicked 'Skip'. The steps are still in the 'Getting started' card; open it from the menu and click 'Continue setup'.
The schedule is empty: check the card for the next step. Most often there is no location, no shift types or no people yet, so the schedule has nobody and nothing to place.

Questions and answers

I have already registered. What do I do next?
Click 'Start setup' on 'Home' or open 'Getting started' in the menu: the card shows the next step. Start with a location.
Can I skip the steps and do things my own way?
Yes. The steps are a guide, not a restriction: every action is available in its menu section from the first minute. The card simply ticks off what is done.
Do I need to set anything up with one site and three people?
Yes, the same six short steps: one location, two shift types, one position, three people, a rota, publishing. Usually 10-15 minutes.
What does the team see while I set things up?
Nothing. People get access when you give them an invite code, and they see shifts only after the rota is published.
